In episode 655 of Two Chairs No Waiting we celebrated the life of Betty “Thelma Lou” Lynn who we lost on Saturday October 16, 2021. During that episode I asked to hear your memories of Betty and several of you responded.
The memories of Betty her impact on the lives of those around her, including fans of The Andy Griffith Show, are strong enough that folks took time out of their day to either record a voice mail or send in written thoughts. I believe that these memories will continue to have an impact on us all and I know you’re going to enjoy hearing from fellow fans.

Welcome to episode 55 of the Mayberry Devotional entitled “Snowball.” Today I’ll be looking at season two, episode twenty of The Andy Griffith Show, “Barney and The Choir.” I’ll also be looking at Scripture from Zechariah 8:16
“These are the things that you shall do: Speak the truth to one another; render in your gates judgments that are true and make for peace” (ESV)
It’s the Halloween season and it’s been a tradition for several years to tell a spooky story or two around the campfire.
In the search for a story to tell you that is in the same spooky vein as “The Golden Arm,” I found “Chief Swanee’s Gold” written by Craig Dominey and Lanny Gilbert on “The Moonlit Road” podcast/website. Craig granted me permission to share that story with you and it will be followed by a version of The Golden Arm folktale.
The Golden Arm was most famously told by Mark Twain and also used by him to instruct others in how to tell a story. In 2015, I first presented the Mark Twain version of the story in episode #349. This being the spooky time of the year, I thought it was time to tell another version of the story.
This episode is spooky so be sure to keep those who might not sleep well, like Barney and Gomer, away from this episode I wouldn’t want to have anyone staring darkness trying to spot someone looking for their gold or their golden arm.

Welcome to episode 54 of the Mayberry Devotional entitled “Start” Today I’ll be looking at season two, episode nineteen of The Andy Griffith Show, “A Medal For Opie” I’ll also be looking at Scripture from 2 Timothy 2:15 – “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”
On Saturday October 16, 2021 near the mid-night hour Mayberry fans lost the lovely Betty Lynn, our much loved “Thelma Lou.” We’re going to celebrate the amazing life of Betty by talking about her long career in Hollywood and before when she was in the USO.
There are so many memories about Betty and how she impacted the lives of those around her. She had such an impact that she’s even responsible for the creation of the “Mayberry Meet-up” that Two Chairs No Waiting leads each year in Mt. Airy, NC. My trip to go and interview her for the podcast was the generation of the meet-up that has been going strong since 2013. So, Betty was drawing people together even when she didn’t realize she was doing so.

Welcome to episode 53 the Mayberry Devotional entitled “You Know What Happens When You Assume.” Today I’ll be looking at season two, episode eighteen of The Andy Griffith Show, “Jailbreak.” I’ll also be looking at Scripture from Proverbs 3:7 –
“Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.” – KJV
“Don’t assume that you know it all. Run to God! Run from evil!” – Message Bible
Saturday October 11, 2008 was date the very first episode of the Two Chairs No Waiting was published on the internet. Since that date I, along with guest reporters like Randy Turner, have created 11 days, 3 hours, 12 minutes, and 15 seconds of Two Chairs No Waiting content for Mayberry fans to enjoy. By the way, those are 24 hour days so it’s enough to listen to for week and four days before you have to start over.
We’re going to hear from some of you by voice mail this week and one of those mentions that he recently started listening to the podcast from the beginning and he’s up to the 400’s. Whew….
We’ll also talk about the appearance by Rik Roberts and myself this past weekend on Governor Mike Huckabee’s show on TBN. We were there to spread the work about the Mayberry Man movie and I think we did pretty well. A link to the official YouTube video of our segment will be in the show notes so if you missed it, you can still check it out.
We’ll play a little Mayberry trivia and then head over to hear from Randy.
