We talked about Hal Smith last time here on Two Chairs and that inspired feedback from several of our Mayberry friends so we’ll be hearing that on this episode. We’ll also be getting a great report from Randy Turner on Mayberry’s own “Howard Morris.”
Howard was much more than Ernest T. Bass and I want to thank Randy for pushing fans to look at more of Mr. Morris’ amazing work. There’s a link in the note for an amazing skit that Howard was part of back in April 1954 on “Your Show of Shows” with Sid Caesar and Carl Reiner. If you have time, you really should watch.
Friends, go out there this week and tell your family you love them and call up an old friend or two. Spread the Mayberry spirit all around because the world certainly needs it.

This week’s installment of This Week in Mayberry History by Randy Turner features Hal Smith and that got me thinking that I’ve never dedicated an episode of this podcast to Hal Smith nor Otis. I’m going to change that this episode.
By the time you leave, you’ll know more about Hal Smith than most fans of The Andy Griffith Show. He was a special person and I think you’ll soon see that is a truth and not just an opinion.

In this season five “The Andy Griffith Show” episode entitled, ‘Family Visit’ which originally aired on October 5, 1964, Nora, Ollie, and kids visit the Taylor household!
On last weeks episode we talked about where the “T” in Ernest T. Bass came from and found out the use of the initial was purposeful. We know that because the information came directly from the writer of the original episode with Howard Morris’ character of Ernest T making his appearance. The writers even stated specifically the initial was never used without the “T”. It was always like one name, “Ernest T.”
That got me thinking and during an 8 plus hour trip from Alabama to North Carolina with Kenneth “Otis” Junkin this past weekend we talked about it….A LOT. We had 8 or more hours to kill so we had plenty of time to come up with a reason. You’ll hear it on this episode.
We’ll also play some trivia that I think will be fun and then we hear from Randy Turner!
Bonus: This week’s installment of This Week in Mayberry History by Randy Turner featuring “Chubby Johnson.”

The 6th Mayberry Meet-up was held in Mt. Airy, NC on 20-21 July 2018. The weather was amazingly cool and dry for the month of July all the way up til it rained on us at 8pm on Saturday. Even the rain couldn’t dampen the fun had by those who attended the meet-up.
This episode gives a report about what happened at the event and I hope it encourages you to go out to one Mayberry event or another to enjoy the fellowship of the Mayberry family. You will not be disappointed when you meet other folks who are fans of The Andy Griffith Show. They are the salt of the earth.
Bonus: This week’s installment of This Week in Mayberry History by Randy Turner featuring “James Best.”
