We’re heading back into the archives of The Andy Griffith Show Rerun Watchers Club (TAGSRWC) to read about Mayberry folks from the mountains around town. The story is from “The Bullet,” the official newsletter of TAGSRWC, volume 1 issue 2 (March 18, 1983). This is a fun trip back down memory lane to the very early days of TAGSRWC.
We also hear from a caller who lets us know that Richard “Doc” Ferrara (one of the subjects of our last episode – #121) was mentioned on The Andy Griffith show episode “Ernest T. Bass Joins the Army.”

Tonight we’ll be hearing about a lady named Lee Canon and her brother Richard “Doc” Ferrara. I’m sure you’re asking, who are the Ferrara siblings and what’s this got to do with The Andy Griffith Show.
Lee Cannon’s first job was as a home economics teacher in Osage, a community near Cannon’s hometown of Morgantown, West Virginia.
It was also there in West Virginia’s coal country that Cannon’s brother Dr. Richard Ferrara first took banjo lessons from the famous banjoist Eddie Peabody. Doc’s biggest fan was Don Knotts of Andy Griffith fame, his best friend since middle school when the two started playing music together.
I guess you see the connection now so give a listen to some memories from Don Knotts Ferrara friends.

Last week was about Don Knotts got his star on Hollywood Walk of Fame. This episode we get to hear bits of the audio from the luncheon held following the star ceremony.
We start off with John Ritter talking about seeing The Andy Griffith Show for the first time. Having gone to church with Andy, he enjoyed the show but recalls that Barney was the character that he loved.
Andy Griffith then speaks about his good friend Don Knotts. They have known one another since they were 30 years old. Andy says that the five years with Don on The Andy Griffith Show were the best years of his life.
Finally, Don says, “Thank you” to all those that helped him get where he is. I can say, from all of us, THANK YOU Don Knotts.
The audio is a bit hard to hear and you will heard glasses clinking and laughter of those in attendance. I hope you can enjoy what you can hear as it certainly is rare audio and I wanted to share it with you.
