That’s the kind of question answered in the book by Randy Turner called “Mayberry Firsts” and we’ll learn the answer to that question on this episode. Randy’s book if full of fun and interesting information like what you’ll hear on Two Chairs No Waiting. We hear from several folks who wrote into the podcast with questions this week. One of the questions I don’t know an answer to so I’m hopeful someone listening/watching might be able to help. Mayberry Day 2022 has come and gone but the memories created during the event will live long in the hearts of those who were able to attend. We’ll hear reports from a few folks about their experience during Mayberry Days and we’ll even get one video report this week. If you missed last weeks podcast, we had a great report from a listener in that episode, too so go back and check it out.

This episode of Two Chairs marks the 14 year mark for the podcast. It began on October 11, 2008 and now, 706 episodes later, we still have fun talking Mayberry. What a blessing this 62 year old television series has been in my life.

Wow…we’ve made it to 700 episodes of Two Chairs No Waiting and folks are still listening/watching! I want to thank all of you for spending time with me each week here in Mayberry so we can talk about our hometown. It’s almost like therapy to loose myself in the town of Mayberry each week and spend time with you, my fellow townsfolk, and share a laugh. Thank you for being here and supporting me.

This week, we’ll hear from fellow fans via voicemail. We have one that’ll kick thinks off talking about Ellen Brown and what color her dress is at the beginning of “The Manicurist.” Is is black or gray? The Mayberry Man movie featured a car that was said to be a ‘real’ Mayberry patrol car but in actuality it was a very nice replica. That said, there is a real Mayberry patrol car located at Melody Ranch Studio in Santa Clarita Valley, CA. Since 1915, when the studio was first opened for business, an endless string of hard riding shoot-em-ups have been produced at the location. Melody Ranch Studio features a massive western town with interiors in the saloon, bank, jail, general store, hotel, church, school, livery stable, and theatre.

On top of all that, they have a car that is very much believed to have been a screen used Mayberry patrol car. We’ll hear from Andre Veluzat, one of the owners of the ranch, thanks to fellow Mayberry fan Bryan Schaffer who was visiting the ranch.

We’ll play some trivia and then hear from SpiritWalker with his “Returning to Mayberry” report.

Finally, if you’re still listening, I’ll read a story about me. Yeah, I know it seems funny that I’d read a story about myself but I feel like Ernest T. Bass and wanted to talk about me this episode.

Last episode we talked about the writers of The Andy Griffith Show. As I said then, they don’t get mentioned as much as the actors but it was the writers that actually created the characters we all loved. Without the writers, we wouldn’t have gotten the stories about Opie’s Newspaper, Divorce Mountain Style, and ALL the other amazing moments that happened in Mayberry. It was the writers who created the town of Mayberry and helped the actors make it come to life.

There’s an out of print book called “Inside Mayberry: ‘The Andy Griffith Show’ Handbook” by Dan Harrison and Bill Habeeb that gives us an entire chapter on the writers. I’m going to share the insight the Harrison & Habeeb divined in their chapter about “The Writers.” I’ll be doing some reading but hopefully the story told is good enjoy to excuse having the host read to you.
