The writers of The Andy Griffith Show don’t get mentioned as much as the actors but it was they who actually created the characters who Andy, Don and the cast portrayed. Without the writers, we wouldn’t have gotten the stories about baby birds without a mamma, unusual mountain folks, and the many other special folks who live in Mayberry. It was they who created the world in which Barney and Andy lived and made it come to life.
There’s an out of print book called “Inside Mayberry: ‘The Andy Griffith Show’ Handbook” by Dan Harrison and Bill Habeeb that gives us an entire chapter on the writers. I’m going to share the insight the Harrison & Habeeb divined in their chapter about “The Writers.” I’ll be doing some reading but hopefully the story told is good enjoy to excuse having the host read to you.

I traveled up to Danville, IN this past weekend for a few Mayberry related events that I want to share with you. They were all great fun and I encourage you to make plans to attend a Mayberry event in your area. You’ll meet some of the salt of this earth. I’ve met friends through Mayberry events that are friends for life and I know you can too.
We have a few bits of feedback from you that I believe you’ll enjoy and we’ll play some Mayberry trivia.

This year marked the 10th Annual Mayberry Meet-up in Mt. Airy, NC. You might ask, “What is the meet-up” and that would be a good question so I’m gonna try and answer that by letting you hear directly from several who attended the 2022 edition. Hopefully, their reports will be fun for all and will encourage you to make plans to attend a Mayberry event in the near future.
We have eight reports about the Meet-up and three other voice messages from folks so this will be a very fun episode where we can hear from fellow Mayberry fans.
This week also marks the end of fund raising for Mayberry Man: The Series so if you haven’t taken advantage of one of the perks by donating to the series, I encourage you to do so quickly.

I have some great feedback from the listeners/viewers of Two Chairs to go over this week. Information on Helen and Thelma Lou, a Bible, Bert Mustin, and some fun with Floyd.
We’ll test your Mayberry knowledge with 10 fun Mayberry trivia questions and even resolve a question that was asked last week but the answer was contested. We did the research to resolve it during the 10th Annual Mayberry Meet-up.
Speaking of the Meet-up, if you were there, please call in with a report about your experience during the meet-up. I’m sure fellow listeners would love to hear what you thought and I certainly know I would.

These are always some of my favorite episodes because I get to hear from you. We have several voicemails so I know you’re all going to enjoy hearing the voices of your fellow listeners and viewers. I’ll do my best to try and answer the questions but I may need your help to be sure I answer correctly.
Then we’ll have some fun trivia to see how well you do. It’s just for fun so don’t feel stressed.

The show we’re going to go back and give another think to some of the topics we covered in the last few episodes. They raise questions and created comments that are well worth talking about.
In one case, I answered a question from an audience member incorrectly so I’m going to correct the answer. My thanks to Randy Turner for pointing out the correct answer that is found in his “Mayberry Firsts” book (found at WeaversDepartmentStore).
We’ll also hear from a couple of folks about if knowing more changes how they watch episodes of The Andy Griffith Show.
To clear the palate, we’ll do a few Mayberry trivia questions.
We have an installment of This Week in Mayberry History by Randy Turner featuring “Hal Smith” part 2 to wrap up the Mayberry fun.

This past weekend on May 1, 2022, the MeTV series Collectors Call featured the collection owned by Mike Haviland so I thought it fitting to talk about Mike and how well he represented Mayberry during the show. As such, Mike also worked with MeTV to develop several Mayberry related trivia quizzes with Round One being: “How well do you know Sheriff Andy?“
We’re going to play that trivia. It’s twenty-five questions related to Sheriff Taylor and I know you’ll enjoy playing along.
This episode we have a new installment of This Week in Mayberry History by Randy Turner featuring “Hal Smith” part 1 that I know you’ll enjoy so go ahead and press play so we can get the show on the road.
