Recently, the Daily Mountain Eagle newspaper located in Jasper, AL  (George “Goober” Lindsey’s hometown) did an interview with me that was all about this podcast.  I asked Jennifer Cohron, the Daily Mountain Eagle’s features editor and writer of the article, if I could use her story on Two Chairs No Waiting.  She said it was no problem and I thought it would be fun to do a podcast about a newspaper story about the podcast….that’s so meta!  (If you don’t know what meta means in this use, ask somebody very young…they’ll know.)

Bonus:  This week in Mayberry History.

TCNW 406: Bernard Fox Remembered

Two Chairs No Waiting

Two Chairs No Waiting

Host: Allan Newsome

On December 14, 2016 we lost one of the great character actors and gentlemen  of all time, Bernard Fox.   I thought it would be fitting to remember Mr. Fox with an interview I did with him back on 26 June 1998 in Kingsport, TN.

As you listen, near the beginning of the interview, we are interrupted by Howard “Ernest T.” Morris.  Those you’ll here talking in the background are Maggie “Charlene Darling” Peterson, all the The Dillards (a.k.a. The Darling boy), Howard Morris, Elinor “Miss Ellie” Donahue, and Jean “the Fun Girl” Carson.

Bernard Fox was known to TAGS fans as Malcolm Merriweather but to non-Mayberry fans his best-known role was as the warlock physician  Dr. Bombay on Bewitched.

Mr. Fox was  a “fifth generation performer” and was born with the name Bernard Lawson in Port Talbot, Glamorgan, Wales. Maybe he’s distant kin to our own Floyd Lawson.  Bernard was married to his wife Jacqueline since 1961.

This interview was first published on Two Chair back on episode #19 (February 17, 2009) but I felt it fitting to revisit.

TCNW 400: Michael Oliver Interview

Two Chairs No Waiting

Two Chairs No Waiting

Host: Allan Newsome
Running time: 0:28:05

Two Chairs reaches the 400th episode milestone this episode and I got a special gift form listeners Mark & Mary Enger to help me celebrate.  I try to describe the gift but if you watch the video version of the podcast, you’ll be able to see what he sent…I’m not sure words do it justice.

The focus of this episode is an interview with Michael Oliver who is our Gomer Pyle tribute artist.  He and Kenneth “Otis” Junkin joined me during the 2016 Mayberry Cruise to talk. Michael is an amazing addition to the family of Mayberry tributes and I know you’re going to enjoy hearing from him because, like the rest of us, he’s a BIG fan of TAGS and that is where his portrayal of Gomer begins…in the heart.

Conclusion of the interview with Morgan Brittany (a.k.a. Mary Alice Carter in the TAGS episode “Opie’s First Love.”). She answers some question about working in Hollywood both on TV and in movies.

David Alan Bailey was the actor who played Fred Simpson in “Opie’s First Love.”  I didn’t realize that had appeared before on The Andy Griffith Show.  I’ll let you in on the trivia as the show moves along.

Joy Ellison also appeared with Morgan on “Opie’s First Love” so we’ll talk a bit about

Thanks go out to Neil and Pat Coleman for the recording used in this episode.
