This year marked the 10th Annual Mayberry Meet-up in Mt. Airy, NC. You might ask, “What is the meet-up” and that would be a good question so I’m gonna try and answer that by letting you hear directly from several who attended the 2022 edition. Hopefully, their reports will be fun for all and will encourage you to make plans to attend a Mayberry event in the near future.
We have eight reports about the Meet-up and three other voice messages from folks so this will be a very fun episode where we can hear from fellow Mayberry fans.
This week also marks the end of fund raising for Mayberry Man: The Series so if you haven’t taken advantage of one of the perks by donating to the series, I encourage you to do so quickly.

This year marked the 9th Annual Mayberry Meetup. It’s hard to believe that what started by chance in 2013 is still going as a yearly event on the Mayberry calendar. Back in 2013 I was heading to Mt. Airy the third weekend in July in order to interview Betty “Thelma Lou” Lynn for the podcast and mentioned if anyone what going to be in town that weekend we could meet-up. Twenty-five or thirty folks showed up and what I thought would be a one time event became an annual one.
Folks started asking me late in 2013 when the Meetup would be in 2014? Thus began the fun and relaxing Mayberry gathering that the Mayberry Meetup has become.

We had a great time at the Two Chairs No Waiting Meetup over at the George Lindsey UNA Film Festival this past weekend. Not only did we get to gather as Mayberry fans and visit with each other, we got to see the documentary film by Chris Hudson, The Mayberry Effect. Chris has been working for almost 4 years on this film and he has done the fans of The Andy Griffith Show proud with his efforts
I give you a full report during the show then we hear from Randy Turner followed by a special report on our wonderful Mayberry friend, Maggie Peterson. She needs our help and what an opportunity we have to show her an example of how much she has meant to us.

On TCNW #480 we featured an interview with Rance Howard, the father of Ron and Clint. During that interview Rance mentioned how Ron got the role of Opie. Ronnie was optioned to appear on a possible CBS series called “Barnaby and Mr. O’Malley” which would have conflicted with Ronnie being able to appear on The Andy Griffith Show. Aaron Ruben put in a second hold for Ronnie to be on The Andy Griffith Show if the other series didn’t sell.
What a different version of Mayberry we would have had if Ronnie hadn’t been Opie.

We had the 7th Annual Mayberry Meet-up in Mt. Airy, NC the weekend of 18-19 July 2019 and it was another wonderful Mayberry family reunion. More than 130 fans of The Andy Griffith Show gathered in the courtyard of the Mayberry Motor Inn around the gazebo on Friday and Saturday evenings. Visiting, talking, Mayberry murder mystery solving, trivia and episode watching were on the agenda. A good time of fellowship was had by all.
I recommend watching the video version of this episode to get a more complete feel of what went on during the weekend. I did my best to describe things so audio podcast listeners wouldn’t feel left out but to paraphrase Briscoe Darling, “Seein’ speaks louder than words” in this case.

The 6th Mayberry Meet-up was held in Mt. Airy, NC on 20-21 July 2018. The weather was amazingly cool and dry for the month of July all the way up til it rained on us at 8pm on Saturday. Even the rain couldn’t dampen the fun had by those who attended the meet-up.
This episode gives a report about what happened at the event and I hope it encourages you to go out to one Mayberry event or another to enjoy the fellowship of the Mayberry family. You will not be disappointed when you meet other folks who are fans of The Andy Griffith Show. They are the salt of the earth.
