Two Chairs No Waiting

Two Chairs No Waiting

Last week was about Don Knotts got his star on Hollywood Walk of Fame. This episode we get to hear bits of the audio from the luncheon held following the star ceremony.

We start off with John Ritter talking about seeing The Andy Griffith Show for the first time. Having gone to church with Andy, he enjoyed the show but recalls that Barney was the character that he loved.

Andy Griffith then speaks about his good friend Don Knotts. They have known one another since they were 30 years old. Andy says that the five years with Don on The Andy Griffith Show were the best years of his life.

Finally, Don  says, “Thank you” to all those that helped him get where he is. I can say, from all of us, THANK YOU Don Knotts.

The audio is a bit hard to hear and you will heard glasses clinking and laughter of those in attendance.  I hope you can enjoy what you can hear as it certainly is rare audio and I wanted to share it with you.

Don Knotts got his star on Hollywood Walk of Fame at age 75 on January 19, 2000. His star can be found on the North side of the 7100 block of Hollywood Blvd  (7083 to be exact). The star was awarded for his contributions in the field of television.

Mr. Knotts commented  after receiving his star, “I can’t believe I have my own star. I’m gonna come down here every morning and shine that sucker up.”

Thanks to The Andy Griffith Show Rerun Watchers Club the audio we have of the ceremony.

This is the final segment of the 1991 Opryland press conference. I took a couple of weeks off between the third segment of the press conference and this one. If you missed any of the first 3 part, or have forgotten them, you’ll want to drop back by and give a listen to episodes 73, 76, & 77.

George Lindsey, Don Knotts, Betty Lynn, Maggie Peterson, Rodney Dillard, and Jack Prince all have things to say during this segment.  Some of the question are hard to hear and the audio isn’t perfect but we’re just lucky to have this tape recording of the press conference.

Many thanks to Jim Clark, Presiding Goober of “The Andy Griffith Show” Rerun Watchers Club (TAGSRWC) headquarters for allowing us to have this piece of history to share with all the fans.

Opryland in Nashville, TN presented a Mayberry Reunion back in 1991.  In this episode we hear from some of the cast of The Andy Griffith Show that were present for a press conference held just before they began the reunion shows held over the course of a weekend.  We’ll have more clips from this press conference in the coming episodes so be sure to stick around.

The question being addressed in this show is, “Do you feel you were typecast because of your role on The Andy Griffith Show? Also, address any negatives or positives related to your role.”

You’ll hear the following folks answering these questions in this order: Rodney “Darling” Dillard, George “Goober” Lindsey, Betty “Thelma Lou” Lynn, Maggie “Charlene” Peterson, Hal “Otis” Smith, and Jack “Rafe Hollister” Prince.  George and Betty speak more than one time each but I’m sure you’ll recognize their voices as you listen.
