Two Chairs No Waiting 203: What’s My Line?

Two Chairs No WaitingHost: Allan Newsome
Running time: 0:24:08

There may be some folks out there listening that have never heard of an old CBS Television game show called “What’s My Line?  In a recent edition of the “Who’s Beeen Messin’ Up the Bulletin Board?” Digest, Chapter member David Quinn discovered a clip from 26 April 1959 of “What’s My Line?” that featured the man himself…Andy Griffith.

That got me to looking around and I found two more clips of Andy appearing on “What’s My Line?” His first appearance was on 22 June 1958.  He was then on the 26 April 1959 episode that David found.  So far as I know his only other, and final appearance, was on Halloween night 1965.

Two Chairs No WaitingHost: Allan Newsome
Running time: 0:17:04

Many Mayberry fans have known about the Mayberry Cafe in Danville, IN for years but I’m betting there are those of you who may not know that this central Indiana bit of Mayberry exist.

Thanks to Two Chairs No Waiting roving reporter, Tom Rusk, we have an interview with Brad and Christine Born.  The Born’s are the owners of the Mayberry Cafe which opened back in 1989!  Complete with a Mayberry patrol car out front, the cafe is a sight to behold.  The menu consists of items like “Aunt Bee’s Fried Chicken,” “Barney’s BBQ Ribs,” and “Howard Sprague’s Ham Steak.” Oh…and don’t forget “Floyd’s Fish Sandwich” or “Ernest T’s Bacon-Swiss Burger”…they’re goooood.

Thanks to Tom for doing this interview for the podcast and if you’re in Danville, be sure to drop by 78 W Main Street and tell the Born’s that “Floyd” said “Hey.”

Listener Jerry from Cullman, AL called in with a voice mail related to a “strange and curious happening” that occurred during The Andy Griffith Show episode “A Black Day for Mayberry.”  I began to look into the events that happened throughout that episode and I have determined that  Count Istvan Teleky may, indeed, have been traveling through Mayberry in November of 1963 (when the episode was originally aired).

We see coats going from dry to wet and back to dry in seconds.  Entire men disappearing or changing their appearance right before our eyes.  Pants having gas on them…and then they don’t.  There is certainly something afoot and we’ll get to the root of it in this episode of Two Chairs.

Thanks to Jerry for shining a light on this episode of The Twilight Zone…err…I mean “The Andy Griffith Show.”

You’re in for a real treat.  We’re lucky enough to have a special report from one of our listeners, Tim Bradshaw, as he recounts writer Ellery Klass‘ meeting Andy during the time when The Andy Griffith Show was still in production.

We also have some special music by Ernie Rowell. Ernie is from Alabama but lives now in Nashville, TN.  The song is called “I Wannta Be Like Andy” and I know you’re going to enjoy it.  You can purchase the song at the link below.
