The last few episodes we’ve been talking to folks who live in Andy Griffith’s home town of Mt. Airy, NC. Now, Mt. Airy isn’t Mayberry but it’s about as close as you can get. That said, I thought it would be fun to hear from a fellow fan of The Andy Griffith Show and the adventure of his first visit to “Mayberry.”
If you’ve never been to Mt. Airy, don’t over expect. The town doesn’t look exactly like the town of Mayberry but there is a Floyd’s barbershop and there are many other Mayberry things to see that will make the trip worth your visit.

The week following Mayberry Days 2012 I was lucky enough to make my way back to the home of Mayberry Days, Mount Airy, NC. It was a great visit! I was able to spend time with Debbie and Darrel Miles, as you heard on episode 211 of this podcast, and the fun continued later into the evening.
Kenneth “Otis” Junkin and I were able to sit down with Mayberry Motor Inn owner Alma Venable to complete that wonderful, Mayberry evening. We sat and talked about how she came to be the owner of the Mayberry Motor Inn, how she came to be “Aunt Bee,” and so much more.

This week we get to visit with Debbie and Darrel Miles. They are the owners of Mayberry on Main located on Main Street in Mount Airy, NC. They have a wonderful story because they actually took a leap of faith and moved to “Mayberry” to open their store and live the dream of so many fans to actually live in Mayberry.
Kenneth Junkin, our Otis Campbell tribute artist, Debbie, Darrel, and Samantha Miles joined me at Pandowdy’s for a fun evening of fellowship, talk and food. I hope you’ll enjoy the show.

Maybery Days each year plays host to the “World Championship of The Andy Griffith Show Trivia.” The questions asked during this contest are the hardest Mayberry trivia questions you’re every likely to be asked or to have heard. The truly amazing thing is that so few of the questions are missed by the top tier of contestants.
In 2012, the trivia contest consisted of 20 questions. The winner, Pat Bullins, got 18 of the 20 questions correct! Runner up, Mike Haviland, got 16 and 3rd place finisher, Michelle Bryson, got 14 right.
Let’s go through the questions together and see how you might have done competing with these heavy weight trivia champions.

Welcome to the first episode of our 5th year of podcasting!
You are in for a real treat for this episode of year five. Our roaming reporter, Tom Rusk, was able to visit with LeRoy “Mack” McNees for a wonderful interview. If you don’t know, LeRoy was a member of The Country Boys and appeared on two episodes of The Andy Griffith Show. “Mayberry on Record” and “Quiet Sam” were the two episodes and LeRoy even had a speaking part on “Mayberry on Record.”
LeRoy is one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet in this world so I know you’ll enjoy this episode and it’s a great way to start off year five.

I just got back from the 2012 edition of Mayberry Days held in Mt. Airy, NC and it was once again a wonderful experience. This was the 23rd Annual Mayberry Days and I can tell you that even a little rain during the parade did not dampen the spirits of those able to attend.
I’ll run through a quick report of the weekends activities so even if you weren’t able to be there, you’ll get a feel for what goes on at Mayberry Days. I hope you’ll be inspired to make it to next years Mayberry Days in Mt. Airy.
We also hear some feed back about episode 207: “Public Domain.”
