Following episode #88, Mayberry fan Gaither Harwood stayed around in the chat room (I record the show live and some folks drop by and watch the live feed) and confirmed that Earle Hagen’s son was the original finger snapper for the Theme of The Andy Griffith Show.
I had thought that Earle had told me that during a conversation so when Gaither mentioned the same fact I was excited. I had not mentioned Deane Hagen’s finger snapping on the podcast because I couldn’t confirm my information. Thankfully Gaither has a better memory than me and pointed me right to that odd fact known by few in “The Definitive Andy Griffith Show Reference” by Dale Robinson and David Fernandes (page 310 of the hardcover edition).

The Definitive Andy Griffith Show Reference (Hardcover) – Weaver’s only remaining copy of this book in hardcover does have a little shelf wear on the bottom edges and corner of the front cover, but it’s in very good shape for a book that’s now 16 years old.
