What great memories I have from Mayberry Days 2020. It was the 31st Mayberry Days held on the 30th anniversary of the first Mayberry Days and just a week before the 60th Anniversary of The Andy Griffith Show. While the attendance for 2020 was not what it normally is because of the Covid-19 issues, it was a welcome time of normalcy in what has been an unusual year. In this episode we’ll work through the Qualifying Round questions and answers of the 2020 World Championship of Mayberry Trivia.
The qualifying round is just to qualify for the Finals of Mayberry trivia. If you qualify, you end up facing past Mayberry Days Trivia champions and other qualifiers from this round and the “kids” trivia winners.
The Grand Champion of Mayberry Trivia for 2020 was, for the 5th time in a row, Jim Sherrill. Jim has been the champion in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and now in 2020. He deserves a lot of credit for his education and the speed of his buzzer finger. We’ll go though the questions from the finals in a future episode.
This episode also marks the start of year 12 +1 of Two Chairs….I’m just being cautious.

On episode #103 of Two Chairs (Andy Griffith Statue Part 4) a young man called into the show with a voice mail about meeting Andy Griffith (about the 8 minute mark) to help us celebrate the 50th Anniversary of The Andy Griffith Show. The young fellows name is Trey Miller. Ten years later, on the 60th Anniversary of The Andy Griffith Show (October 3, 2020), Trey created a special episode of his video blog called “Globetrotting with Trey” sharing the same experience but with more detail.
I contacted Trey to see if I could share his story with you. I think you’ll be, just like me, imagining being right there with Trey as he meets Andy and share his excitement in meeting “the man himself.” It’s an event he’ll never forget and one I’ve never forgotten since hearing that story 10 years ago.

In episode 594 of Two Chairs No Waiting we had fun getting to know Andy Griffith Show fan and actor Danny Vinson. In this episode we get to see some behind the scenes conversation with Danny showing us around his memory room. The room is full of memories of his carrier and it’s really amazing how many of Danny’s stories turn into Mayberry stories. He’s a true fan and I know you’re going to enjoy it.
One thing I would recommend is that you actually watch the video version of this episode. Danny shows us a lot of things and I think the video makes it a bit more fun. I did the best I could to make the audio version fun for those who can’t, or don’t want to, watch the video.
No Mayberry History report this week because I’m on the set filming the Mayberry Man movie.

There has been a lot of conflicting information about the status of Mayberry Days 2020. An article just came out in the Mount Airy News that details the plans for the event. I’m going to go through that article in an attempt to set the record straight and to help you know what the plans actually are for this year’s event.
We’ll also hear a little about the Virtual Mayberry Meet-up that was held this past weekend and some information about things Randy Turner is doing related to Mayberry.

August 29, 2020 will be the 94th birthday of actress Betty Lynn who played the love of Barney’s life, Thelma Lou. We have several episode of Two Chairs dedicated to Betty but can you really ever talk enough about Thelma Lou? I say no. Especially when it’s her birthday week!
I’ll also give you some information about one of the other wonderful Mayberry ladies, Maggie “Charlene” Peterson that I know you’ll want to hear.

I ran across some interesting information a few weeks back and I wanted to be certain that you knew about it. It has to do with a lady named Lillian Culver. She only appeared one time on The Andy Griffith Show but Mayberry owes more to her than being the mother of one of Mayberry’s finest. It’s big! Big, big! Go ahead and guess…go ahead……You’ll never guess so listen to the show and find out.

I received a letter from a long time Mayberry friend
I met Danny Vinson several years ago at the George Lindsey Film Festival and right away I knew he was a Mayberry man through and through. Over the years I’ve been able to get to know him better and consider him a friend. I should also mention that Danny is a “working actor” which means he makes a living acting. He’s been in more than 86 movies, had done television, and commercials….but mostly, he’s a great guy.
I know you’re going to enjoy hearing him talk about how he met George “Goober” Lindsey, Don Knotts, Howard Morris, and so much more. As I said, he’s a fan of The Andy Griffith Show and when I meet a fellow fan, there’s always plenty to talk about.
