Two Chairs No Waiting

Two Chairs No Waiting

Professor Brower concludes his interview with Jim Clark and Ken Beck.  If you messed the last episode, go back and give part one of this interview a listen because we already found out where The Andy Griffith Show Rerun Watchers Club (TAGSRWC) got its name, how Beck & Clark became friends, and why TAGSRWC had a newsletter.  That’s just some of what we learned.

In this episode we find out how the guys became writing partners, why they write cookbooks, how Mayberry has impacted their lives and so much more.

We own Jim and Ken so much for the things Mayberry fans have had the chance to share with one another over the years.  Without these guys this podcast would most likely not exist nor would iMayberry.com or so many other things we, as fans, take for granted.

Thank you Jim Clark and Ken Beck.  You’ve been a blessing to us all.

As review from last week:

Jim Clark is the “Presiding Goober” and one of the founding members of TAGSRWC.

Ken Beck is a journalist who worked for “The Tennessean” where he edited the “Sunday Showcase” until he stepped away from his 31 years with the Nashville, TN paper.

Together Beck & Clark have touched Mayberry fans everywhere with their books about The Andy Griffith Show. I know you’ll enjoy hearing from them as “Professor” Brower draws wonderful information from them.

Neal, of course, has a wonderful book of his own called “Mayberry 101” that you will not want to miss. Neal was the focus of two episodes of this podcast so after you finish listening to him interview Beck & Clark, head back to episodes 50, 51, and 52 to hear his story.

Don’t forget to leave comments or ask questions on the TwoChairsNoWaiting.com website or using the contact information given in the podcast. We’d love to have you be a part of our next feedback episode. Call the Two Chairs No Waiting Hot-line at (888) 684-8415 and leave a voice mail to be part of the show.

Two Chairs No Waiting 107: Ellie Comes to Town

Two Chairs No Waiting

Two Chairs No Waiting

As this episode of the podcast is being recorded, it is the 50th anniversary of the first airing of episode number 4 of The Andy Griffith Show titled “Ellie Comes to Town.” That fact and as a result of a voice mail I received this week it seemed fitting to focus just a bit on this episode.

Kevin Burke recapped this episode on his “Burke on Mayberry” podcast(#6) back in April 2008 [a link to his podcast will be given below] but on Two Chairs we’re going to look at a few things that many of you may not have noticed.

We have links to some screen grabs and enlargements of some shots so you can see the things you’ll hear about during Two Chairs No Waiting.

Enjoy the show and tell Goober that Allan says “hey.”

Two Chairs No Waiting

Two Chairs No Waiting

To start the show, we have a fun bit of “Mayberry in real life” from a listener who wrote in and sent us some photos of his encounter. We’re following that up with a voice mail Mayberry Days memory from Tom and then we’re back to the bank book.

The issue that keeps raising it’s head is “who’s bank book was Andy looking at, his own or Parnell Rigsby’s, when he said, “Ain’t that the saddest bank book you ever saw?” Andy took the bank book out of the same cigar box that he had been keeping Mr. Rigsby’s change purse. I, and many others, have always believed that to be Andy’s bank book BUT there are also a lot of folks that think that it was Mr. Rigsby’s bank book.

I did two episodes of the Two Chairs No Waiting podcast (episodes 74 & 75) on that exact subject and I continue to receive feedback on this topic.

I did screen shots but you can’t tell from them who’s bank book it actually is. Only that there is gold or silver embossed logo/writing on the cover. It certainly appears to be a Savings Account type deposit book from a bank and it certainly not a checkbook ledger.

Does anyone happen to have a copy of the script for “Opie’s Fortune” (#136 season 5)? If so, perhaps it would have stage direction as to who’s bank book Andy is taking from the drawer. Your assistance would be wonderful.

Two Chairs No Waiting 104: Mayberry Days 2010

Two Chairs No Waiting

Two Chairs No Waiting

Mayberry Days 2010 was BIG!  Big may not even be the word for it but the crowds were large and the folks friendly all over Mt. Airy, NC in celebration of the 50th Anniversary of The Andy Griffith Show (TAGS).

October 3, 2010 marks the 50th anniversary of the airing of the first episode of TAGS and Mt. Airy began the celebration with style. Let celebrate on this episode of Two Chairs No Waiting the memory of Mayberry Days 2010 and the end of the podcast’s 2nd year!

Jim Clark, Presiding Goober of The Andy Griffith Show Rerun Watchers Club (TAGSRWC), pointed out to me that this episode is 104 or 10-4 (as Barney might say it).  The fun thing is that as I record the date is 10/4/2010 so I’m recording episode 10-4 on 10-4. Thanks, Jim, for making sure I knew that.

I hope you’ll sit down and enjoy a few minutes in Mayberry as we kick off the 50th anniversary year and remember so good times from Mayberry Days 2010.

I just kept on talking this episode so it is a little long. Sorry for that.  I’ll try to curb them hotflashes for the next year of podcasts.

Final segments of our visit with Andy Griffith at Mayberry Days 2004 and we have a special treat.  Andy sings the Mayberry Union High fight song! What a wonderful way to end this series of podcast devoted to the statue presentation to the city of Mt. Airy, NC.

We also have a wonderful call from a listener telling us about meeting Andy Griffith and what a wonderful experience it was.

Thank you, again, Doug Rogers for providing us with this outstanding audio of Andy’s comments.
