Every week I work on trying to come up with ideas of things to talk about here on the show. It isn’t that I don’t have ideas, it’s that I have too many and I keep shifting from one to another depending on what episode of The Andy Griffith Show I watched most recently. This week, it was easier to stay focused because I wanted to talk about Ron Howard.
This week we celebrate the birthday of Ron Howard. He’s 67 this year and what an amazing career and life he has had. He started “acting” when he was only a baby and has really been going strong ever since.
We’ll try our hand at five “tough” Mayberry trivia questions that I picked up at an event sometime in the past. See how you do.
Bonus: This week’s installment of This Week in Mayberry History by Randy Turner featuring “Sheldon Leonard” Part 2.

Ron Howard had a birthday this week (March 1st) so I thought it only fitting that we talk a little about him. Turns out that two other folks from Mayberry also had birthdays on March 1st. Aaron Ruben and Paul Hartman so we can’t leave them out on the happy birthday wishes.
Finally, someone VERY special to Ron Howard also celebrates a birthday only one day after his own. Listen to find out who.
Bonus: This week’s installment of This Week in Mayberry History by Randy Turner featuring Howard Hesseman.

I’ve talked about Opie before on the show but I don’t know if I’ve ever talked much about Ron Howard. Randy Turner inspired me to dig up a little more information about Ron Howard and Opie because of this weeks history report. I enjoyed learning more and I’m sure you will as well.

In the last episode of Two Chairs listener Randy Bewer provided us with a jewel of Mayberry history related to Howard “Floyd” McNear and this week he’s done it again.
Ever wonder how the mind of 10 year old Ronny Howard worked? Well thanks to the article Randy uncovered we get a glimpse into what was on his mind in January of 1965.
Next up we hear from Paul Mulik related to the song sung by the gypsies who visited Mayberry in the color episode, “The Gypsies.” Turns out that the gypsy melody we heard in the February 1966 episode had it origins well before The Andy Griffith Show ever hit the air.
So, in this episode you get history and trivia. Can you handle the fun?

We had a fun question on the Forum over at iMayberryCommunity.com recently. The question was about Opie and I thought it would make a good topic for us to discuss.
The question was, “Isn’t Opie’s sincereness a bit TOO fake sometimes. Like “Yes Ma’am” and “Yes, sir??” I doubt Ronny Howard was that “kind” in real life. It just sounds a little too fake…like a telemarketer being saying, “I promise will fix it.” That’s sort of what Opie was doing.”
What do you think? I’d love to hear your thought on this to add to those already found at the iMayberry Community web site.
