Host: Allan Newsome
Running time: 0:40:12

To celebrate the birthday of Ron Howard (Opie Taylor) who turned 72 years old on March 1, 2026, we’re gonna party like it’s 1999.

There are 24 questions and each it worth one point. Keep up with your score and see how you do. Some of our best trivia experts only got 8 or 9 of these and most of us got between zero and 2. They are hard questions for sure.

Do you best and just enjoy knowing that somebody would have gotten almost all these answers correct at the World Series of Mayberry trivia at Mayberry Days.

Even in a town where the biggest crime might be a misplaced pickle jar, love found its way into Mayberry’s gentle rhythms. From puppy crushes to long-term romances, the show wove sweetness into its most memorable plots.

One of the earliest and most charming arcs of affection comes from young Opie Taylor. In Season 5’s “Opie Loves Helen,” he awkwardly but adorably develops a crush on his schoolteacher, Miss Helen Crump — even going so far as buying her a gift with his hard-earned 74 cents! Opie’s loves continued into season 8, where in “Opie’s First Love” he musters the courage to ask classmate Mary Alice Carter to a party — a classic tween drama complete with dance plans and mixed signals.

Aunt Bee Taylor’s love life also got its share of spotlight. From an old beau, Roger Hanover, returning to Mayberry to court her to trying out the idea of marriage with dry-cleaner Fred Goss, Aunt Bee was hit by Cupid’s arrow from time to time.

This episode we’ll explore how Andy & Helen and Barney & Thelma Lou romances didn’t rush it, and as fans know, but ultimately end up together. Love in Mayberry wasn’t about drama or high stakes — it was about sincerity, community support, awkward moments, and personal growth.

We’ll play some trivia with the topic “Oh, you’re funny, you are!” by Paul Mulik.

To wrap things up a song for Jenny Boone from her husband Fred. The lyrics are by my friend Ronnie Felker but it is most certainly Fred’s ‘hort’ speakin’ to Jenny’s ‘hort.’

Two Chairs No Waiting

Host: Allan Newsome
Running time: 0:28:14

Back in episode 867 of Two Chairs No Waiting called “Real Flying Cloud,” I made what turned out to be a mistake that resulted in me being told I wasn’t “southern” and should have gotten a southerner to translate what Andy said for me.

Well, I’m here to try and earn my southern card back since I was born, raised, and live in Alabama. (It’s hard to get things dune down here without my southern card.) I’ll fix my error and try to help folks born after the 1940’s understand what caused my confusion. I invite you to go back and watch 867 as most all the information I provided was correct but what I heard, as I’ll explain, was not.

Hopefully, this will clear up any misinformation I may have put out in the world and will keep the “bad” information from growing.

We play some fun “Who Said It?” trivia by Paul Mulik with a bit of a twist that I think you’ll enjoy.

TCNW 875: Mayberry in Hazzard

Two Chairs No Waiting
Two Chairs No Waiting

Host: Allan Newsome
Running time: 0:32:13

You’re in for another treat this week as contributor Codie Sloan is back with a report. If you missed his past reports on Mayberry Filming Locations (TCNW #789 & #790), you really should go back and give each a watch. Yes, I said watch because while listening to his reports is great…it’s even better to see the photos that he provided during his reports.

This time, Codie is giving us information related to his finding the mystery filming location from The Andy Griffith Show episode “Andy’s Rich Girlfriend.” That’s the one when Peggy McMillan shows up with a brand new T-bird. Andy learns she’s the daughter of the “M” in R & M Grain Elevators. Andy struggles to fit in with the wealthy class. Finally realizing it’s better to be himself.

In that episode, Andy, Barney, Thelma Lou and Miss Peggy go to “Mom’s Diner.” Fan’s never knew where “Mom’s Diner” was located in the “real” world (i.e. the filming location), until now and thanks to Codie’s research. Well, that’s not quite true, the information was first published for fans who subscribe to “The Andy Griffith Show Ambassadors Magazine” published by Two Chairs contributor and author, Randy Turner.

We play trivia from the Mayberry Man YouTube channel that I know you’ll enjoy!

TCNW 872: Col. Tim’s 2025 Clips

Two Chairs No Waiting
Two Chairs No Waiting

Host: Allan Newsome
Running time: 0:39:26

There are some amazing Mayberry events scheduled for 2026 that i think you’d really enjoy. I’ll point out some of them which can be found on the iMayberry.com website’s “Event Calendar.” I certainly encourage you to try to attend one of the scheduled events.

To give you an idea of what you might see when attending one of the larger events we’re going to watch (yes, I think you should watch the YouTube version of this episode) a compilation of video clips from Mount Airy, N.C.’s 2025 Mayberry Days event. Specifically this is from the “Col. Tim’s Talent Time” show that wraps up the Mayberry Days week each year.

These clips feature the Mayberry tribute artists recreating moments from the episode “The Songfesters” (S4.E20). It features James Dodson as Andy, Terry Varvel as Barney, Chris Bauman as Gomer, and Allan Newsome (me) as Floyd. The choir itself features all the other tribute characters as well as several “fans” who were attending Col. Tim’s. The events seen were done as what I call “in-betweens” with the final choir scene done as a featured act. And “in-between” is something done between the talent acts occurring during the show to keep the “Mayberry” feel of the event flowing among the singers, dancers and other acts of Col Tim’s Talent Time.

I hope you enjoy it and that it gives you an idea of what you’re missing during these wonderful Mayberry events.

A big thank you to Neil & Pat Coleman for the video of Col. Tim’s!

To close out, we’ll play the second round of “During Our Lifetime We Travel Many Roads” Mayberry trivia by Paul Mulik.
