We have a YouTube comment last week that I attempted to address but I wasn’t happy with the answer. So, I researched what “needles” and “pins” meant in the episode “Jailbreak” (S2.E18) meant Clarence “Doc” Malloy (Allan Melvin) and Barney exited the cell and both say “So far, so good” at the same time. Barney, forcing Malloy to lock pinkie fingers with him, says “needles” while Malloy says “pins.” What does that mean?
I found the answer in the book Inside Mayberry by Harrison & Habeeb (1994) and went on to find the original source so if little things like this bother you, I have your answer.
A couple of folks called us this week so we’ll hear from them.
Then we’ll play Mayberry trivia base on the topic “Car trouble” submitted by Paul Mulik.

We finished up season one episodes of The Andy Griffith Show (TAGS) last week and I received a question/topic idea from Eric Self. He thought it would be interesting to go over the commercials filmed during the original run of the series featuring the characters from TAGS.
I thought it sounded like a fun idea but I wasn’t sure where I can find information on the commercials. After a lot of searching, I’ll provide what I was able to find out.

If you are in that group, or if you just want to brush up on your studies, this column is for you. We’ll begin with a few basics that will help lay the foundation.
Even more information for the Mayberry “First Years” can be found in the Weaver’s Newsletter January 2025. You’ll also find a lot of other information about The Andy Griffith Show in the FREE newsletter like, trivia, event news, cast & crew news, chapter updates and other news.
