We’ve spent the last several weeks talking about Lum and Abner so I thought it was time to dive into a Mayberry trivial trivialities session.
I’m sure you’ve enjoyed the episode “Convicts at Large” (episode #74 from 1962/12/10) with Big Maude Tyler, Sally and convicted husband beater Naomi Connors. In that episode, after Barney had been dancing for a while with Sally, a song began to play and Naomi got so upset that she hit Floyd over the head with a vase.
In this episode of Two Chairs No Waiting, we’ll learn the name of the song and a few more trivialities about it. Can you guess what we hear on “My Fair Ernest T. Bass” (episode #112 from 1964/02/03) at about 20:10 minutes into the episode? We’ll, if you haven’t figured it out you will certainly know after to hear this episode of Two Chairs.

We have several bits of feedback and comments from some of wonderful listeners of the podcast. They’ll be sharing some great Mayberry related stories and we’ll hear some about how The Andy Griffith Show impacts real life.
The Laura Lee Hobbs Chapter tells us some of the details of their recent meeting and spreads the word about Mayberry events. Paul Mulik talks about selfish giraffes and dogs being low to the ground. Idelle Bushy sings “Hail to Thee Miss Mayberry” at work. And finally we hear from Tammy Sullivan about her boy, “Opie.”
I can’t thank you enough for sharing time with me in Mayberry each week. It’s a special community of fans that make up the listeners of this show and I’m thankful for you.
Enjoy the show and welcome to Mayberry if you’re just finding us.

We learned about the dingo dog and the Carolina Dog in the last episode of Two Chairs No Waiting so I thought we’d continue the topic by visiting a quote by Barney from “Dogs, Dogs, Dogs (episode #93). One of the best scenes in that episode is with Andy, Opie, and Barney talking about those dogs being out in a thunder storm.
Of course we learn that dogs don’t get struck by lightning because they’re low to the ground, but what about giraffes? Walking around with their heads in the air…looking out for number one. Does that really happen?
We also have a special Christmas poem from TAGS fan Ben Sandifer of GMS Productions in Macon, GA. Ben is a member of the “Lots of Luck to You and Yours” chapter of The Andy Griffith Show Rerun Watchers Club.

We learn some strange facts about the dingo dog, thanks to Floyd the barber mentioning dingos in 6th season episode “Aunt Bee Learns to Drive” (#180). Did you know the dingo was indigenous to Australia? Did you know that a breed called the “Carolina Dog” is also known as “American Dingo?”
Wow, the things you can learn when talking about The Andy Griffith Show. Listen to this episode to have fun and even learn a little.
We also have some listener feedback.

The Carolina Dog, or American Dingo – The Carolina Dog, or American Dingo, is a type of pariah dog discovered in the late 1970s. They were located living in isolated stretches of longleaf pines and cypress swamps in the Southeastern United States.

As this episode of the podcast is being recorded, it is the 50th anniversary of the first airing of episode number 4 of The Andy Griffith Show titled “Ellie Comes to Town.” That fact and as a result of a voice mail I received this week it seemed fitting to focus just a bit on this episode.
Kevin Burke recapped this episode on his “Burke on Mayberry” podcast(#6) back in April 2008 [a link to his podcast will be given below] but on Two Chairs we’re going to look at a few things that many of you may not have noticed.
We have links to some screen grabs and enlargements of some shots so you can see the things you’ll hear about during Two Chairs No Waiting.
Enjoy the show and tell Goober that Allan says “hey.”

Mayberry fans know “Good Ole 14-A” or “Welcome Sweet Springtime” as Barney identified it in the episode “Barney and the Choir” (#52) but do you know the history of the melody of that Mayberry ballad.
Two Chairs crack staff…okay, it was Allan since I’m the entire staff…..found out the history of this beautiful song just this past weekend and you’ll find out the rest of the story if you listen to this episode.

Anton Rubinstein Melody in F – Russian composer and concert pianist Anton Rubinstein. Although Rubinstein was a prolific composer, the only piece of his to be found in today’s classical piano books is the Melody In F.
Swinging melody in F – This is a version of 14a, the music anyway, that would have Gomer and Mary Grace up and dancing.
You may know the names of the Darling boys are Rodney (guitar), Doug (also called Jebbin – banjo), Mitch (bass) and Dean (also called Other – mandolin) but do you know where the name “Other” came from? I mean the name “Other” of course.
On this episode, we’ll find out.
We’ll also hear from a caller with a couple of corrections and additions to information about Don Knotts appearances on cartoons.
