Those watching/listening to this podcast love The Andy Griffith Show but it’s nice that even more casual fans watch and laugh along. What is it that keeps all these folks watching a show that started 65 years ago? That is what we shall try to find out by visiting the Sep/Oct 2025 edition of the Weaver’s Newsletter.
The Weaver’s Newsletter is an online newsletter of The Andy Griffith Show Rerun Watchers Club (TAGSRWC) and it is FREE to subscribe to and read. It has all kinds of articles about Mayberry, the surrounding activities, events, cast & crew, and so much more. I know what’s in there because I write it so I hope you’ll go and check it out
This episode we’ll go over just a fraction of the 10,000 words that make up the newsletter in the form of the article titled ” 65 Years of The Andy Griffith Show.“
We’ll play some trivia and have as much fun as I can deliver. Come on along and join me in Mayberry!

I’ve been going through old files on my computer and came across a poem by a person with the username “Al Becker” from 2001. This poem really makes you think about what it would be like to meet not only Andy but many of the cast members from The Andy Griffith Show. What would your say to them? How would you feel when you met them?
I’ve been lucky to have met so many of our friends from Mayberry and I can say this poem helps me to remember those wonderful times.
I also ran across some video from 1999 that I’ve shown here on Two Chairs way back in April 2012. I thought it might be worth sharing again. Andy Griffith appeared for the first time on the Grand Ole Opry back on November 13, 1999. Andy was there to present fellow Tar Heel Earl Scruggs with a North Carolina Hall of Fame award.
When Andy joined Earl on stage and he received an extended standing ovation. Here even said, “I ‘preciate it” and then told a barbershop joke that George Lindsey had first shared with him years ago. Then Andy, with Earl and company backing him (and playing a guitar he used on The Andy Griffith Show) played and sang “Whoa Mule,” (also called “Flop Eared Mule”). Andy had performed that song with the Country Boys on The Andy Griffith Show episode “Mayberry on Record.” Enjoy the memory
We’ll do a few trivia questions as well.

We had a voice mail and many other comments about enjoying the clips from the Colonel Tim’s Talent Time show that is somewhat of a final show for Mayberry Days each year. So, I ran across a clip where somebody has stolen Floyd’s pants and he’s trying to get them back. I hope you’ll enjoy this. I recommend you watch the video version of this episode even if you usually just listen to the audio. I believe it would be worth watching. The video clip was provided by Neil & Pat Coleman so a BIG thank you to them.
Then we’ll dive into some of the information found in the Weaver’s Newsletter issue for July/Aug 2025. There’s a load of Mayberry related information and fun in the newsletter so it’s not all about trying to sell you stuff. If you haven’t, consider subscribing so you’ll get the newsletter delivered to your e-mail inbox as soon as it publishes every-other month.

As the new year begins, I have been reflecting that there are many folks out there that love The Andy Griffith Show but may not be in the graduate studies program. They are “First Years” in that they enjoy watching the episodes but may not know all the things students in their “Eighth Year” might be aware of.
If you are in that group, or if you just want to brush up on your studies, this column is for you. We’ll begin with a few basics that will help lay the foundation.
Even more information for the Mayberry “First Years” can be found in the Weaver’s Newsletter January 2025. You’ll also find a lot of other information about The Andy Griffith Show in the FREE newsletter like, trivia, event news, cast & crew news, chapter updates and other news.

The latest issue of the Weaver’s Newsletter hit the streets late last week so we’ll be going through some of the Mayberry news and reports that are found within. There’s great news about a BIG Mayberry fan and we hear from a few folks that made their way out to “Myers Lake” for a visit. That plus more.
We have some extra-easy Mayberry trivia that I know you’re going to enjoy. If you don’t feel pretty good about your Mayberry knowledge after this quiz, I honestly don’t know what to say.
Finally, we have a report from Floyd about another upcoming Mayberry event you won’t want to miss.
