We learn some strange facts about the dingo dog, thanks to Floyd the barber mentioning dingos in 6th season episode “Aunt Bee Learns to Drive” (#180). Did you know the dingo was indigenous to Australia? Did you know that a breed called the “Carolina Dog” is also known as “American Dingo?”
Wow, the things you can learn when talking about The Andy Griffith Show. Listen to this episode to have fun and even learn a little.
We also have some listener feedback.

Allan, that is pretty odd that another Allan Newsome would be known for his knowledge of the dingo dog! That’s a great quote by Floyd, one of his classics. I’ve known about the dingo dog for a long time, but I think the only time I saw one in person was at Kentucky Down Under. Kentucky Down Under is located near Mammoth Cave and is an attraction that showcases Australia, especially the Outback. They have many animals on display, among them the dingo dog. Which reminds me — did you know that the rock band Three Dog Night’s name came from the Australian Aboriginal custom of sleeping with a dog at night for warmth? A really cold night required three dogs for enough warmth. I’m assuming these would be dingo dogs. Don’t you think Floyd would enjoy knowing that bit of trivia?
Hey Janet, thanks for writing in and for calling in on this episode! I didn’t know that about Three Dog Night but I’ll make sure that “Floyd” talks about it sometime. 🙂
A Carolina Dog huh? Learn something new evey day!
