Mayberry Days 2014 was wonderful and I want to tell you about it so you will join us next year.

This was the 25th Anniversary of Mayberry Days so it was made many in attendance reminisce about previous years as well as about The Andy Griffith Show itself.  I know that in the weeks leading to the 25th Mayberry Days I was pulling out old videos so I could watch and remember the fun of years gone by.  That really put me in a “Mayberry” mood.

In this show I’ll run through all the events available for fans to attend during this years Mayberry Days.

It’s very hard to cover everything in the length of an episode so this is just a taste of what you really experience at Mayberry Days.  Make plans to be there next year!

Last episode “Otis” and I gave our Mayberry Days 2013 report and mentioned the Mayberry Days Trivia contest.  I thought I’d take this episode to go through the incredibly hard questions asked during the “Super Bowl of Mayberry Trivia.”   After you hear them, you’ll know why the winner only got 14 points out of 22 possible.

Many say, “Why are the questions so hard?  It’s not fun for us.”  Folks, this is the “Jeopardy” of Mayberry Trivia.  It really *means* something to win and champions have every right to be proud to wear the title of Mayberry Days Trivia Champion!  There are several people who can compete at this level and actually have a chance to get *every* question right.  It’s happened in the past.

Every year, Kenneth Junkin works very hard to come up with questions to stump these people who are walking Mayberry computers.  This year he did very well with the winner only getting two-thirds of the questions right.

Be sure to keep your own score to see how well you do compared to these experts. One or two answers right is a real accomplishment and you have a right to be happy with yourself so jump in where you can and hang on.  Let us hear how you did.

Mayberry Days 2013 was one of the most fun Mayberry Days for me in recent years.  That is saying a LOT. The wonderful weather may have been a factor but I believe it was the fans.  It seemed to me that everybody had a smile on their face and was in a true “Mayberry” mood.

This episode of the podcast was recorded in the “Otis Mobile” (a.k.a. Kenneth Junkin’s Tahoe).  Ken allows me to ride to and from Mayberry events with him when my wife isn’t going and that’s fairly often.  We have a great time riding around and come up with ideas for future Mayberry skits more times than not.  This time, I thought it would be fun to have Ken help me file a report from Mayberry about the 2013 Mayberry Days.

I know you’re going to enjoy it but please realize that we cut the report short because the show was already running long and there was so much more to tell about Mayberry Days. It’s hard to cover everything in the length of an episode so this is just a taste of what you really experience at Mayberry Days.  Make plans to be there the first chance you get.

The eBullet is *always* something I look forward to receiving in my e-mail inbox but the September 2013 issue had a real gem contained within.  Jim Clark, the Presiding Goober of The Andy Griffith Show Rerun Watchers Club (TAGSRWC), and his wife were on a well deserved vacation when they found something no artist could draw.

What was it, you might ask. Well it was none other than the actual motorcycle Mayberry fans know as Barney Sidecar.  That’s right!  It is *the* motorcycle ridden by Barney himself in the TAGS episode “Barney’s Sidecar.”

Jim shared the experience with all of us in The eBullet and has allowed me to share it with you in this episode of Two Chairs!  Don’t miss this one and don’t forget to subscribe to The eBullet so you never miss a jewel like this wonderful story.

Two Chairs No Waiting 253: Mayberry Tourism

There was talk in newspapers this summer about tourism related to The Andy Griffith Show and how it was slowing down.  I don’t know exactly what evidence the writer was using to write the article but I had the feeling that there wasn’t really any proof of things slowing down.  It was more of a “people can’t really keep enjoying ‘Mayberry’ so things have to be slowing down.”

I can’t say how things are in Mt. Airy, NC all year round but I can tell you that the Mayberry fans that live there don’t see “Mayberry” as dying.  I don’t think things are like some in Mt. Airy seem to believe and neither does John Peters who writes for PilotMountainNews.com.

Mr. Peters wrote an article in September 2013 titled “Still Plenty of Demand for Mayberry Tourism” and in this episode we’ll explore what he had to say as well as comment on his report.

In episode 237 of Two Chairs, we revisited a portion of the 2004 Mayberry Days presentation by Andy Griffith related to TV Land placing a statue in Mt. Airy, NC.  I received several comments from listeners and viewers of the video version of the podcast requesting I present the entire video.

Thanks to Doug Rogers, who provided the video, I can do as requested.  Doug wrote to me to say:

Unfortunately, the video isn’t great. On the day of the dedication I was all set to shoot the whole thing on tripod, then I got stuck behind the media and had to come off tripod and catch what I could, so I was constantly zooming in and out and the whole thing is handheld. There may be bits and pieces you want to use, but like I said, it’s not the best video.

Even though this is a rerun of episodes 100, 102 and 103, know you’ll enjoy the show even if you don’t watch it because Andy’s comments are something all Mayberry fans will enjoy.
