We covered some of the frequently asked questions about Barney on episode 179 of Two Chairs No Waiting so I thought it would be a good time to do the same for Andy.  We’ll look in to why Andy’s pant leg so often seems to be stuck on his boot and other trivialities.

While we’re looking into trivia, we’ll look into the happenings over at the iMayberry Community and see what the community of Mayberry fans have been visiting about.  It seems they’ve figured out the connection between Joss Whedon, the writer of the May 2012 movie The Avengers (you know Goober would want to see that one), and Mayberry.

It seems we may have found at least one more connection with the old time radio series “The Great Gildersleeve” as well.  If you missed it, check out Two Chairs No Waiting 61: Floyd and Otis, Brothers? for more information about ties between “The Great Gildersleeve” and Mayberry.

Andy Griffith appeared for the first time on the Grand Ole Opry November 13, 1999.  Andy was at the Opry to present fellow Tar Heel Earl Scruggs with a North Carolina Hall of Fame award.

When Andy, who had been kept secluded backstage, joined Earl on stage he received an extended standing ovation (Yes, he said, “I ‘preciate it.”).  Andy told a short barbershop joke that George Lindsey had first shared with him years ago.  Then Andy, with Earl and company backing him (and reportedly playing a guitar he used on The Andy Griffith show) played and sang “Whoa Mule,” (also called “Flop Eared Mule“).  That’s the song Andy  performed with the Country Boys on The Andy Griffith Show episode “Mayberry on Record.”

Andy was joined by his wife Cyndi on stage and presented Earl with the N.C. Hall
of Fame award.  It was BIG!

Earl Scruggs passed away on March 28, 2012 at the age of 88.  He was never on our favorite show but who will ever forget The Ballard of Jed Clampett, the theme song for The Beverly Hillbillies, another TV classic.

You may not know it but there is an online community built around The Andy Griffith Show called iMayberry Community.  I started it about three months ago, as of this writing, to encourage fans of Mayberry to come together and form an online version of Mayberry.

Today we had out 300th towns person move to the iMayberry Community so, as Floyd might say, “Everything’s okay…in iMayberry.”

An interesting conversation is happening online and it goes along with things that have been on my mind of late so I thought we would visit and discuss it.  The question asked was, “I wonder if The Andy Griffith Show will still have a following 25 years from now?”

That’s a question that I hope and pray I know the answer to but I want to add to that, “How many folks out there in the world love The Andy Griffith Show but don’t know they aren’t alone?”

What are you doing to spread the joy of Mayberry?  Do you tell folks about the websites, podcasts, newletters, and the daily e-mail digest?  Do you tell fellow Andy Griffith Show fan that all those things are on the web for the taking and, to top it off, they’re free?

Are you doing things to make sure that in 25 years people will still be smiling and experiencing  the same warm, family friendly, joy that is Mayberry?

This is a challenge to you.  Today, go out and make sure some Mayberry fan in your life finds out that there are more people in this world that love The Andy Griffith Show than they know.  They range in ages from 5 to 95 and above.  They’re men, women, girls, and boys.  They are the people that make this world a better place and there are more than they might thing.

Tell them about this podcast.  Tell them about iMayberryCommunity.com.  Tell them about ALL the ways they can stay in touch with fellow fans.  Use Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest or the telephone (Sarah can help you if you need it).  However you can tell them, get the word out because there can NEVER be too much Mayberry in this world and it’s up to us to share what we’ve enjoyed with our friends so they can join in the fun.

So, head out there and spread the word.  “Everything’s okay….in Mayberry!”

This wonderful interview comes to us from fellow Mayberry fan, Bart Boatwright.  George Lindsey interviews authors Jim Clark and Ken Beck about their book on The Andy Griffith Show on Nashville Now in 1985.  The two of them helped George write his own book, “Goober in a Nut-Shell”, which? was released 10 years later in 1995.

For those that may not know who Jim Clark and Ken Beck are, they were mentioned in last weeks podcast episode  as the authors of The Andy Griffith Show Book.  That’s not the only book they wrote together related to The Andy Griffith Show so drop by over at Weaver’s to check out more of them like Aunt Bee’s Mayberry Cookbook, Aunt Bee’s Delightful Desserts, Mayberry Memories, and so many others.

Jim Clark is also the “Presiding Goober” of The Andy Griffith Show Rerun Watchers Club (TAGSRWC) and the writer/editor/publisher of The eBulletThe eBullet is the official Newsletter of TAGSRWC.

Two Chairs No WaitingNovember 29, 2011 marks the 20th Anniversary of the WBMUTBB Chapter here online!!

Back in April of 1990, Bob Bravetti was on the Prodigy computer network and he started the topic on the Prodigy “bulletin board” system with a subject of “The Andy Griffith Show.”  After a few replies and a little chatter, the subject died off.

In the early fall of 1990 I, your podcast host, signed up for the Prodigy network and started a “subject” on the “bulletin board” system called “Andy Griffith Show.” After that first message I was joined, over time, by 57 other folks (including Bob) who enjoyed talking about Mayberry.

On the first anniversary of that first message, we decided to make our group of TAGS fans a “real” chapter of The Andy Griffith Show Rerun Watchers Club (TAGSRWC) so we had people send in their suggestions for a chapter name and “Who’s Been Messin’ Up the Bulletin Board?” (WBMUTBB) was born. A note requesting the chapter name was sent to TAGSRWC HQ on November 4, 1991 and official verification of our chapter arrived by mail on November 29, 1991 in the form of out Chapter Charter from TAGSRWC Headquarters in Nashville.

The WBMUTBB Chapter expanded from just being on Prodigy to being on the whole Internet and thus began the WBMUTBB Digest.  The format is a Digest style email mailing list.  Members are allowed to post messages to the list and several emails are combined into one “digest” and then delivered to members. (Usually one email per day.)  There are currently 1,527 members of the WBMUTBB chapter and their have been 5,355 issues of the WBMUTBB Digest through November 29, 2011.

I hope you will join the fun of a daily e-mail in your inbox all about Mayberry.  It’s easy to sign up.

Two Chairs No WaitingThe 5th issue of The eBullet hit the Internet this week and is full of wonderful Mayberry news!  If you don’t know, The eBullet is the “Official Newsletter of The Andy Griffith Show Rerun Watchers Club (TAGSRWC)” and, like water and air at Wally’s, it is free!

I’ll hit a few of the highlights on the podcast but there’s more to be had than I have time to fit into our show so I encourage you to drop by http://tagsrwc.com/the_bullet and check it out for yourself.  You can sign up to have future issues delivered directly to your inbox, subscribe by RSS or just keep an eagle eye out for new ones.  I recommend signing up because you won’t want to miss a single word.

Jim Clark, the Presiding Goober of TAGSRWC, works hard to keep us all informed of the Mayberry news and, as you could tell by last weeks Two Chairs No Waiting episode (#162), he knows how to capture the Mayberry spirit.  Thanks to Jim for allowing me to share some of his hard work with you in oral format but I admit, reading “speaks louder than words.”

Speaking of last weeks show, I have a nice letter from one of our listeners to share with you as well.
