In this season five, “The Andy Griffith Show” episode entitled, ‘Barney Runs for Sheriff,’ which originally aired February 8, 1965, Barney runs against, with, and for Andy for Sheriff of Mayberry!
As I was thinking about The Andy Griffith Show and what it’s meant to me over the years it came to me that I’ve never talked about what I’m thankful for related to Mayberry.
Of course we’re all thankful that Andy created the town of Mayberry for us all to visit each week but there’s so much more to give thanks for. Let’s spend a few minutes talking about just some of the wonderful things that Mayberry has given us and brought into our lives.
What are you thankful for? I’d love to hear the things you’re thankful for so call in or leave a comment.

A couple of weeks ago, my friend and fellow Mayberry tribute artist, Eric Lowry posted a wonderful article called “In Defense of Mayberry.” It was so well written and it captured the way I feel about The Andy Griffith Show and Mayberry in such a deep way that I asked if I could share it on the podcast. Eric was kind enough to allow me to do so. You are in for a treat.
Eric tells us why he, a grown man able to go on dates (if he wasn’t married) and everything, dresses up like a character from The Andy Griffith Show and appears at events. His thoughts reflect my own in a way that I wouldn’t have been able to put into words.
We’ll play a little trivia and then hear from SpiritWalker with his wonderful Returning to Mayberry report.

In this season five “The Andy Griffith Show” episode entitled, ‘Opie’s Fortune’ which originally aired on November 16, 1964, Opie finds $50 and is eager to spend his fortune.
In the last episode of Two Chairs No Waiting I covered how the Legacy of Mayberry had impacted the entertainment world. It is fitting that since I released that episode and the began preparing for this one that I found an example of how Mayberry has impacted the “real” world. Not just impacted but was actually used to make a legal judgement.
Stick around because you’ll enjoy this story.

We talked about Ron Howard and how he became Opie Taylor in our last episode. As part of that, we looked at the impact that Ron had on The Andy Griffith Show and how different Mayberry would have been if not for Ronnie as Opie.
That got me thinking, how much impact The Andy Griffith Show has had on the world around us. I know it’s only a TV show from over a half century ago but think about Mayberry and how it, and its citizens, have become part of the landscape of America.

It’s Thanksgiving time and that made me think about things I’m thankful for. I guess it goes without saying that I’m thankful for The Andy Griffith Show and it’s been four years since I’ve said that in an episode. It was all the way back in TCNW #261 when I talked about what I thankful for so far as Mayberry goes. I figure it’s time to say it again.
I’m thankful that Andy created the town of Mayberry for us to visit anytime we’d like but there are many things that Mayberry has given me that I want to make sure everyone knows about at least some of what Mayberry has given me in my life.
